Clay County Deputies Seize Drugs and Stolen IDs

Clay County deputies were able to seize dozens of stolen IDs and several types of drugs in the early hours of Wednesday, June 7.

Just after midnight deputies saw a vehicle that had illegally tinted windows. The vehicle had been reported stolen according to a license plate match. The driver of the vehicle, Michael Bennett, 49, drove off when deputies attempted to stop him. He crashed near the NE Antioch Road exit ramp on I-35.

Deputies found driver’s licenses, passports and social security cards belonging to 22 different individuals in the vehicle. They also found checkbooks, credit and debit cards, checks totaling more than $3,460, and dozens of preloaded debit cards.

Deputies also recovered a handgun and multiple different types of drugs, such as powdered fentanyl, meth and prescription pills.

Bennett was taken into custody and charged with resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance.
