Candidate Filing for August Primary Begins Tuesday

Candidate filing for County offices for the August primary opens at 8 am on February 22 and closes March 29 at 5 pm. The new County Constitution, passed November 2020, states that there are no filing fees for county offices and all county offices file nonpartisan.

Per the Clay County Constitution, the following offices are up for election this year:

  • Presiding Commissioner – 4 year term

  • Eastern Commissioner At Large – 2 year term

  • Western Commissioner At Large – 2 year term

  • Eastern Commissioner District Seat 2 – 4 year term

  • Western Commissioner District Seat 2 – 4 year term

  • Prosecuting Attorney – 4 year term

  • Auditor – 4 year term

Furthermore, the following offices are appointed and are no longer elected positions: County Clerk, Treasurer, Collector, Recorder of Deeds and Public Administrator.

Those interested in elected offices can file their candidacy with the Clay County Board of Election Commissioners, 100 West Mississippi Street in Liberty.
