Deputies Recover Stolen Merchandise

Clay County Sheriff’s deputies recovered nearly $1,600 worth of shoplifted clothes and located and arrested four suspects on Thursday, May 18.

Liberty, Missouri Police Department reported the incident and suspect vehicle description on police radio channels, and deputies spotted the vehicle near I-35 and 291 highways.

When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the car fled from them and they lost sight of it. Another deputy spotted the car later at a gas station on Chouteau Trafficway. Deputies were eventually able to take all four suspects into custody with assistance from a K-9 deputy and City of North Kansas City Police Department officer who found one suspect who ran into the woods.

Two of the suspects tried hiding drugs and smoking pipes in the store’s merchandise when they saw deputies enter the gas station. Deputies located all the stolen clothes, as well as apparent cocaine and many items of drug paraphernalia.
