Technical Issue Sends Haslett Back to Grand Jury

The Timothy Haslett case is being sent to a new Clay County grand jury due to a possible technical error. Haslett is accused of kidnapping and raping a woman for nearly a month. He was indicted by a Clay County grand jury on nine counts in February.

The Clay County Prosecutor’s Office said a technical issue will send his case and several others back to a new grand jury. According to Clay County Prosecutor Zachary Thompson, the error was the result of an unintentional and honest mistake outside of the control of the court.

"While it is not believed that this issue presents any prejudice or violation of defendants’ constitutional rights, we have decided out of an abundance of caution to take proactive steps to cure all indictments that were issued during that period of time," the prosecutor's office said in a statement. "These steps included resubmitting a number of cases this morning to a new Grand Jury that has been impaneled by the Court. No new charges have been filed and no changes will be made to defendants’ custody status or bond amounts."

Haslett is currently being held in the Clay County Detention Center on a $3 million bond.
