Boys Basketball

On Tuesday February 14, the Varsity Boys Basketball team played the Winnetonka Griffins for a tough Suburban Conference game. The Bulldogs jumped out to a great start taking an early 8-0 lead. Kearney found itself in foul trouble in the 2nd quarter, and the Bulldogs turned to their bench and subbed some players in for three guards. Winnetonka was able to take a slight lead into halftime 20-19.

The Bulldogs played a great first half of basketball and were hoping to carry the momentum into the 2nd half. Kearney only allowed the Griffins to score 2 points in the 3rd quarter which sparked a Bulldog victory 44-34.

Davin Hanna led the Bulldogs in scoring with 15 points. Harvey Sayon had 10 points and 9 rebounds. Braxton Page finished with 6 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Girls Basketball

On Tuesday, February 14, the Varsity Girls Basketball team hosted Winnetonka for a Suburban Conference game and came away with a 41-36 win. It was senior night, and Jadyn Barnes and Maddi Stevens were honored before the game.

Barnes led the Bulldogs scoring 12 points and gathering 4 steals. Stevens went 3 for 5 from three-point range and finished with 10 points. JoJo Kutch led with 7 rebounds.

The win brings the Varsity's record to 11-12 and 3-1 in conference play.

Girls Wrestling

On Friday, February 10, and Saturday, February 11, the Girls Wrestling team hosted 32 teams from Northwest Missouri for the Class 1 District 4 Tournament. The top 4 placers at each weight advanced to the State Tournament at Mizzou Arena on Feb 22-23.

The Girls finished as the District Runner-Up. The team race was tight until the end, but the Bulldogs needed more depth to outpace Odessa, who wrestled a great tournament.

These four Bulldogs will represent Kearney in Columbia:

  • Riley Walker - Runner-Up

  • Bailey Martin - CHAMPION (Now a 2X State Qualifier)

  • Savannah McDowell - 3rd Place

  • Hailey Romero - CHAMPION (Now a 2X State Qualifier)

Girls Swim and Dive

On Saturday, February 11, Anna Williams traveled to Blue Springs to compete in the district diving meet. To qualify for state, she needed to place in the top 8. She punched her ticket to state by taking home the bronze. She also beat her own school record she set the previous week by 6 points.

Last week the girls state swim team also traveled to Belton to compete in a last chance meet. Ruby Dunn, Jillian Bonderer, Ava Gable, and Claire Woehrman improved their 200 Freestyle relay by over 4 seconds and improved their 400 Freestyle relay by over 3 seconds.
