Grain Elevator Explosion in Lathrop

An explosion caused a massive fire at a grain elevator in Lathrop in the early morning hours of Thursday, December 21. Multiple agencies have responded to contain the fire.

“Lathrop fire is work[ing] an active grain elevator fire in Lathrop. Law enforcement agencies have blocked off the area to allow fire crews to work unimpeded,” states a post from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials have blocked the area and have asked people to avoid the area to let crews work. The fire department has not ordered evacuations at this time.

Lathrop Police have requested that people not call the dispatch center unless they have an emergency. Police will notify residents if they need to evacuate the area.

Amren reports at least 400 customers in the Lathrop area are without power, and Lathrop School District officials have cancelled classes for Thursday due to the power outage.
