Clay County Officials Take Office

Clay County Government swore in its new elected officials on Tuesday, January 3 at the Courthouse in Liberty. Those newly elected and returning officials were:

  • County Prosecutor Zachary Thompson

  • County Auditor Victor Hurlbert

  • Presiding Commissioner Jerry Nolte

  • Western At-Large Commissioner Jason Withington

  • Eastern Commissioner Jay Johnson

  • Western Commissioner Scott Wagner

  • Eastern At-Large Commissioner JoAnn Lawson

Commissioner Nolte was excited to begin a new commission.

“This county as we start on our new day in Clay County, is strong and true and the future is so exciting. It is an honor to be part of it,” said Nolte.

Eastern Commissioner Johnson shared Nolte’s excitement of the new era of Clay County government.

“Clay County is headed in the right direction and has a lot of potential. I’m just really happy and excited to be part of this team and continue to lead Clay County in this direction; to make it the best county to live, work and play in. I’m very excited and optimistic about the future of Clay County,” Johnson stated.

Eastern Commissioner at Large Lawson echoed the other commissioners’ sentiments about the work ahead of them.

“I’m really honored to serve with the people who have been elected. Everyone here has come into this job with the right frame of mind. They want to improve Clay County, and I’m right there with them,” said Lawson

The full seven-member commission will begin work on Wednesday, January 4.
