Deputies Arrest Driver for Multiple Violations

Clay County Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for a minor traffic violation early Wednesday morning. Deputies eventually caught the suspect after a short pursuit.

Deputies attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle at about 1:30 am Wednesday morning near I-35 and Brighton because it had no working tail lights. The vehicle’s license plate was also registered to a different vehicle.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver refused to stop, and deputies pursued the car until it wrecked into a light pole near Brighton Avenue and NE 58th Street.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that after the driver crashed, he fled on foot into a wooded area. Deputy Allen and K9 Sammy found the suspect and he surrendered after he heard Sammy barking.

Deputies found meth, cocaine, prescription amphetamine pills, drug paraphernalia, and bank cards and IDs belonging to several different people who were not the suspect inside the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect also had felony warrants.
