Bulldog Sports Recap

Bulldog teams had some ups and downs this week, but one thing is consistent with all these athletes: they play hard to the very end. Here’s your KPGZ Bulldog Sports recap this week:

Softball

On Monday, September 12, the Varsity softball team traveled to St. Joseph to take on the Central Indians. The Bulldogs were able to win the game 13-3. Alyssa Quick was on the mound to start. She pitched 4 innings and allowed 6 hits. Kate Landewee closed it out by pitching the last 3 innings allowing 0 hits.

Highlights of the Game:

  • Mackenzie Herndon went 4 for 4 with 1 RBI

  • Jadyn Barnes went 4 for 5 with 2 RBIs

  • Elysia Hand went 3 for 5 with 1 RBI

  • Jocelyn Lincoln went 2 for 4 with a home run! 4 RBIs

  • Elise Arellano went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs

  • Macy Morrow went 2 for 5 with 1 RBI

  • Ryleigh Van Emmerik went 1 for 4

  • Kate Landewee went 1 for 1 with 1 RBI

  • Brooke Paalhar went 1 for 5 with 1 RBI

  • Alyssa Quick went 1 for 3

 Girls Golf

The Girls Varsity Golf team competed in the LN Invitational on Monday September 12, in an 18-hole tournament. The ladies finished in 13th place with a team score of 404. Senior Hailey Parker came away with the low round for Kearney with an 18-hole total of 95. Here are the other Kearney individual scores:

 Volleyball

The bulldogs had a tough showing at Lee's Summit North on Monday, September 12. All teams struggled to bring home a win. C Team won their first set (25-23), but lost the last two (20-25 and 13-15). JV lost 25-20 and 25-11. Varsity struggled most of the evening but kept fighting. They lost in 3 straight sets (25-19, 25-22 and 29-27). 

 Boys Soccer

The varsity Bulldogs lost a tough, hard-fought contest vs. the East Bears Tuesday, September 13, 2-1. Kearney's goal came from Liam Ridle, and the team record goes to 2-3. The JV team lost 3-0.

 Boys Swimming

The Kearney Boys Swim and Team traveled to Liberty on Tuesday, September 13, to compete against Liberty and Liberty North High Schools. The boys swam only "off" events and they still had a great meet. An "off" event is an event or stroke that a swimmer would not normally race, or that is not their best stroke. This allows a swimmer to try something new and also receive feedback on an event they haven't swam in a while.

Individual Highlights Include:

  • Whitaker Steward finished 1st in the 50 and 100 freestyle, earning him two state consideration times.

  • The 400 freestyle relay, consisting of Jake Zingerman, Lane Austin, Parker Bartlett, and Whitaker Steward finished 3rd and earned a state consideration time.

The Swim and Dive Team traveled to the Gladstone Community Center Saturday to compete against Staley High School, Northtown High School, Oak Park High School, and Winnetonka High School. Even after a hard week of training, the boys raced hard and finished 2nd with a score of 353 points.

Individual Highlights Include:

  • 200 Medley Relay (Steward, Bartlett, Ballard, Austin) took 2nd place!

  • Whitaker Steward finished 1st in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.13, earning him a state consideration time! Whit also finished 1st in the 500 freestyle!

  • Lane Austin finished 1st in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.62, earning him a state consideration time! Lane Austin also finished 6th in the 500 freestyle.

  • Seth Ballard finished 4th in the 100 butterfly and 4th in the 100 breaststroke.

  • Tanner Mayfield finished 6th in the 200 freestyle and 8th in the 100 freestyle.

  • Parker Mendel finished 9th in the 100 freestyle. Mendel also finished 3rd in the 100 backstroke.

  • The 200 Freestyle Relay (Mendel, Mayfield, Flanigan, Clayton) finished 3rd.

  • Parker Bartlett finished 2nd in the 100 breastroke and 3rd in the 500 freestyle.

  • The 400 freestyle relay (Austin, Ballard, Bartlett, Steward) finished 2nd, earning a state consideration time of 3:50.78.
