Smithville School Bus Overturns

Clay County Deputies are investigating a school bus crash that happened about 8 am on Monday. The bus was transporting Horizon Elementary School students and overturned in a crash on Mt. Olivet Road near Smithville, Missouri.

Deputies responded to the area between Jami Drive and NE 120th Street and found the bus was overturned blocking Mt. Olivet Road.

There were approximately 30 Smithville elementary school students and a driver on board. The driver and two children had minor injuries and were transported to an area hospital. The parents of all the other students were notified, and the children were released to their families.

The Clay County Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the crash and told KPGZ News that the initial investigation indicates that no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
