Deputies Assist in Resolving Standoff

Deputies from the Clay County Sheriff's Office worked with Kansas City Police to end a standoff in the 10300 block of North Elmwood Court on Thursday, June 30.

The standoff began on Wednesday afternoon when U.S. Marshals and Clay County Deputies attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant for Royce F. Ersery for unlawful use of a weapon. Clay County Deputies had been to the residence to deal with Ersery in May.

Officers report that when they made contact with Ersery, he was armed and a confrontation ensued. Deputies secured the perimeter of the scene as Kansas City Tactical Officers took the lead to negotiate a peaceful resolution to the standoff.

At about 12:30 am on Thursday Ersery and another man occupying the residence surrendered and were taken into custody.
