Deputies Revive Driver and Arrest Him for DWI

Clay County Sheriff’s Deputies saved a man’s life Monday night before being forced to arrest him for DWI.

Deputies responded to a call that a truck had crashed into a mailbox in Avondale. When they arrived on the scene, they found the driver unresponsive. Because deputies are trained recognize the signs of an opioid overdose, they were able to revive the driver.

A deputy administered Narcan, a drug that can reverse an opioid overdose, before EMS arrived. Paramedics were able to give him another dose while at the scene.

The driver regained consciousness quickly and was breathing normally. EMS transported him to the hospital where he recovered from the overdose.

The man was released from the hospital and was immediately arrested and booked into the Clay County Detention Center for DWI.

Deputies were also able to reset the mailbox that was damaged by the crash.
