Museum Brings Artist to Kearney

The Kearney Historic Museum announced on Tuesday an Open House and Meet the Artist event. The Open House will feature Parade of Hearts artist Lisa Healey who designed the heart sculpture in front of the museum.

Kearney’s heart sculpture was created by Lisa Healey and features iconic Kansas City locations on strips of film over a red background. Like the other sculptures in the parade, the heart also prominently displays “KC” in the middle of the design. The heart sculpture is located at the Kearney Historic Museum, at the corner of Washington and Jefferson Streets.

Museum Director Gerri Spencer said since the Parade of Hearts was so popular, she invited Healey to the Meet the Artist event: “We thought it would be nice for people who have been to see the heart and take pictures with it to meet Lisa and hear her talk about it.”

The Open House will take place on Friday, May 6, from 3 – 6 pm, and Healey will give her presentation at 4 pm. The Kearney Historic Museum is located at 101 South Jefferson Street.

Visitors are welcome to explore the museum during the open house and enjoy refreshments while touring the exhibits. The featured exhibits include a milk bottle display with bottles ranging from 1900 to current KC Chiefs collectors’ editions milk bottles, and a display about newspaper printing in Kearney through the years with many items donated by Bob & Phyllis Whipple, the last owners of the Kearney Courier. This event is free to the public.
