Starbucks Approved by Planning and Zoning

Construction on the 19th Street Interchange is set to begin within the next few weeks, and with the new entrance more new businesses will start to pop up as well. In the last few weeks Kearney has seen a second Casey’s location, a new Domino’s Pizza store, the construction of Club Car Wash, and now a plan for a Starbucks to open.

The Kearney Planning and Zoning Board approved a plan on Monday, March 14, for Star Development to construct a 2,225 square foot building with drive-thru for Starbucks. Star Development will construct the site improvements and building shell.

The project proposes 37 parking spaces, including two ADA spaces. The drive-thru lane provides stacking for 12 vehicles, with five spaces at the order screen and seven spaces between the order screen and pick-up window.

The site is located at the southeast corner 92 Highway & I-35, adjacent to Dairy Queen. The site shares a driveway access off Star Drive with Dairy Queen. There will be no direct access to Starbucks from I-35 or 92 Highway.

The site is part of the 2009 Shoppes at Kearney Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Plan. A redevelopment agreement was approved in 2012 and the TIF project financing was activated in 2013. The area is also part of the 2013 Shoppes at Kearney Community Improvement District (CID).

This application will be forwarded to the Board of Aldermen for consideration.
