Winter Storm Warning in Effect Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Kearney and north central, northwest and west central Missouri beginning at midnight tonight.

Heavy mixed precipitation is expected in this round of weather. Overnight tonight, much colder temperatures prevail as rain continues. Some rumbles of a thunderstorm may be heard as well.

Rain will change to freezing rain and possibly mixed with snow and sleet after midnight. Snow and sleet accumulation just under a half inch is expected. Expected ice accumulation is only one tenth of an inch. 

Snow may be heavy at times in the morning. Total snow accumulations expected during this weather event is 4 to 6 inches.

Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commute.

The Winter Storm Warning is expected to expire at 6 pm on Thursday, February 17.
