Commission Improves 2023 Sheriff’s Budget

The Clay County Commission worked on the Law Enforcement Fund section of the 2023 budget during Wednesday’s afternoon work session.

The County announced that over $28 million has been allocated for county law enforcement needs in the proposed 2023 budget. This represents 25% of Clay County’s operating funds. This is an increase of $2.1 million over the 2022 budget.

Included in the budget are funds to increase starting salaries and issue pay raises in the Sheriff’s Office, replacing ten patrol vehicles, and providing new radios for deputies.

The proposed Law Enforcement Fund, county budget, and General Fund overview can be viewed on the county’s Transparency Portal at claycountymo.gov/transparency. The Commission is scheduled to work on Road and Bridge and Park Funds portions of the budget next during the December 14 session.
