Several Kearney residents contacted police and posted home security videos of suspicious people trespassing on their property to social media this week. Videos have shown individuals checking car doors and lurking on their property.

The Keaney Police Department posted on their social media that they were able to catch three individuals suspected of being involved in these incidents.

“While most of Kearney slept, KPD Officers apprehended a stolen vehicle that was involved in last nights thefts from auto,” reported Sgt. Joe Kantola. “Three suspects were also taken into custody.”

Kearney Police observed a suspicious vehicle that fled from officers when they tried to stop it. The vehicle pursuit ended on southbound I-35 with the assistance of Clay County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Officers deployed Stop Sticks to disable the suspect vehicle, a black Dodge truck that was reported stolen from Kansas City. When the truck came to a stop in the median, a 23-year-old male suspect from Kansas City fled the scene on foot. He was taken into custody by Clay County Deputies.

Deputies also arrested a 19-year-old adult female suspect from Kansas City and a 17-year-old juvenile female suspect from Independence. Officers found a loaded 9 mm handgun, illegal drugs, and items that belonged to other victims.

Charges in this case have been forwarded to the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office.

“The KPD patrols the neighborhoods and businesses every night, but we really need your assistance so please call 816-628-3925 (or 911 if emergency) when you see suspicious activity and without delay,” stated Kantola.
