Kearney Announces Election Filing Window

The City of Kearney posted election filing information on its website for candidates who wish to run for open mayor or alderman seats this spring.

Candidates who intend to run for Mayor or Alderman may file beginning on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at 8 am The filing window closes on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 5 pm. The City’s election includes one mayor seat for a term of four years, one member of the Board of Aldermen of Ward 1 for a term of two years, and one member of the Board of Aldermen of Ward 2 for a term of two years.

Filing may be recorded with the City Clerk at Kearney City Hall, 100 E. Washington Street, Kearney, MO, during normal business hours from 8 am until 5 pm Monday through Friday. City offices will be closed beginning at noon on December 23, 2022, and closed all-day December 26, 2022.

According to the City’s website, “no person shall be Mayor unless he/she be at least twenty-five (25) years of age, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the City at the time of and for one (1) year next preceding his/her election.”

Qualifications for Aldermen state, “no person shall be an Alderman unless he/she be at least eighteen (18) years of age, a citizen of the United States, and an inhabitant and resident of the City for one (1) year next preceding his/her election, and a resident, at the time he/she files and during the time he/she serves, of the ward from which he/she is elected.”
