Bulldog Weekly Sports Recap

Here’s a look at how the Bulldogs did this week sports:

Cross Country

On Saturday, September 11, the Cross Country team traveled to Ray Pec. The girls squad finished 6th out of 28 schools. Alex Kinstler finished in 6th place and Abby Elam finished in 12th place out of 148 runners to medal. The boys squad placed 13th at the meet.

Boys Swimming

The boys Swim Team traveled to Gladstone Community Center on Saturday, September 11, to compete against Staley, Oak Park, Winnetonka, Northtown, and Rockhurst. The boys finished 2nd overall with a score of 449 points. 

Individual Highlights: 

In the 200 Medley relay they finished 1st with a time of 1:45.93. That relay consisted of Peter Moore, Scott Doll, Adam Hoffman, and Ridge McBride.

Scott Doll finished 1st in the 200yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.98. Scott also finished 1st in the 100yard freestyle with a time of 52.07.

Peter Moore finished 2nd in the 200yard IM with a time of 2:24.40. Peter also finished 3rd in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.00.

Lane Austin finished 2nd in the 50yard freestyle with a time of 25.72.

Adam Hoffman finished 1st in the 100yard butterfly with a time of 58.78. Adam also finished 2nd in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.59.

In the 200 Freestyle relay, the team finished 2nd with a time of 1:41.94. That relay consisted of Ridge McBride, Braden Tonks, Parker Bartlett, and Lane Austin.

Ridge McBride finished 3rd in the 100yard breaststroke with a time of 1:16.33. Jack Haley finished 4th with a time of 1:19.59, and Jake Zingerman finished 5th with a time of 1:21.44.

Girls Golf

The Varsity team traveled to Winterstone Golf Course on Tuesday, September 14, to compete in the Liberty North Invitational.  Despite a tough course and some strong winds, the girls did a great job of competing against mostly big class schools. Overall, the girls finished in 5th place with a team score of 373!  Senior Kenzi Kutch placed 5th as an individual with an 18 hole round of an 81.  Other scores are as follows:

Senior Jessica Riley- 90

Junior Hailey Parker- 98

Sophomore Jojo Kutch- 104

Junior Anna Tourney- 124

Softball

On Monday, September 13, the JV and Varsity softball team traveled to Raytown South to take on the Cardinals for a conference game. JV won the game 11-0. Cadence Frogge was on the mound for the bulldogs. She had solid defense behind her. The Varsity also picked up the win with a score of 15-2. The Bulldogs had 15 hits on the game. Elise Arellano, Kailey Rose, Briana Reynolds, and Macy Morrow all had multiple hits in the game.

Girls Tennis team celebrates it's seniors

The Girls Tennis team celebrated it's seniors on Monday, September 13. They were supposed to play Lincoln Prep, but they had transportation issues. The match was canceled at the last minute. This year’s senior athletes are Grace Kimberlin, Shelby Flanigan, Flannery Simmons, Rachael Hallier, Emma Shoemaker, Emmy Beyeler, and Hayden George.

The Varsity and JV girls tennis teams took on one of their biggest competitors, Platte County, in a home match on Tuesday, September 14. 

The Bulldogs made the Platte County girls work for every single point, but unfortunately, did not come away with the win. The varsity ended the match with a 0-9 score and the JV ended with a 1-8 score. The JV doubles duo, Lillie Gaik and Maclaine Murray were the only win of the night. 

On Wednesday, September 15, eight KHS JV tennis players traveled to Excelsior Springs to compete in their JV tournament. The athletes saw great success on the courts and Kearney placed first in the entire tournament! 

Abigail Stamper: A singles - 4th place

Lillie Gaik: B singles - 1st place

Elizabeth Shoemaker and Hannah Wermelskirchen: A doubles - 5th place

Laci Powell and Maclaine Murray: B doubles - 1st place

Eliza Lohman and Hailey Romero: C doubles - 1st place

JV Football

On Monday, September 13, the JV football team traveled to Smithville and lost 42-0. The team played hard throughout the contest even though things were not going their way. The team responded through the adversity and continued to compete to get better.

Boys Soccer

The varsity boys soccer team lost a tough one on Thursday, September 16 against Platte County. The Bulldogs lost 1-0 in overtime. The JV won 3-1 with 2 goals from Mac Dunn and one from Fischer Luft. The varsity is 2-5 and 0-2 in the conference.
