County Health Department to Vote on School Guidance

The Clay County Board of Health will hold a special meeting next week to discuss and vote on the COVID-19 On-Site Learning Guidance for Schools and Early Childcare Centers. The meeting will be held virtually on Wednesday, August 11, at 6 pm. A link to join the meeting will be posted on ClayHealth.com on Tuesday, August 10.

On August 2 the Board of Health held a special meeting to approve this agenda issue. About 200 concerned parents showed up for the public comments section to voice their opinions. After three hours of public discussion, the board voted to table the vote until a future date, which is now August 11.

The new agenda states that the board has made this meeting virtual due to rising COVID-19 infection rates and to ensure the safety of their board members, staff, and visitors. In order to control the public comments, the board has limited the public comment section to just one hour, and each speaker is limited to just three minutes. The agenda also states that the time limit will be strictly enforced.

Those interested in addressing the board may sign up prior via a form that will be posted at 4 p.m. on August 10 on ClayHealth.com.

Following the public comment section of the meeting, the board members will have their own discussion and vote on the On-Site Learning Guidance. The Guidance document has not been released to the public.
