The bill was introduced by Representative Jered Taylor of Republic, Missouri in January, and lawmakers passed the bill on a 111-42 vote in May. The bill prohibits state and local agencies to work with federal officials to enforce any action that would violate Missourian’s Second Amendment rights. Missouri law enforcement agencies that enforce federal laws could be sued and fined up to $50,000 per violating officer.

“Throughout my law enforcement career and now as Governor of the state of Missouri, I have and always will stand for the Constitution and our Second Amendment rights,” said Parson. “This legislation today draws a line in the sand and demonstrates our commitment to reject any attempt by the federal government to circumvent the fundamental right Missourians have to keep and bear arms to protect themselves and their property.”

Representative Josh Hurlbert was in Lee’s Summit to witness the signing ceremony: “It was great to be on hand to watch Governor Mike Parson sign the Second Amendment Preservation Act this afternoon,” said Hurlbert. “In Missouri, we will protect YOUR rights as an American.”
