Truck Crash with Injuries Disrupts Morning Commute

Interstate 35 at 92 Highway was the site of a semi-truck crash and traffic back-up in the early morning hours of Monday, May 24. All interstate lanes were open about five hours later.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a Freightliner truck was traveling southbound and crashed about 2:55 am Monday. The truck traveled off the roadway, struck the median, and came to rest on the road.

The crash caused the shutdown of interstate lanes for approximately five hours.

Multiple agencies including Kearney Police and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the crash site and gave traffic updates on social media.

The driver of the truck, Weldon Akin of Big Springs, Texas and his passenger Brandy Akin suffered minor to moderate injuries and were transported to Liberty Hospital for treatment. Neither were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
