Winter Weather to Welcome in New Year

We are looking at a decent winter system impacting the region beginning very late Friday night/early Saturday morning, continuing through New Year's Day. Bitter cold temperatures, snow, and freezing rain are all expected.

Temperatures will drop below freezing Saturday morning and will not rise above freezing until Monday. Sunday morning will be the coldest night with wind chills in the -5° to -20° F range.

As for precipitation, rain and snow will build north and northeast across the region through Saturday Morning. Rain will transition to a mix of rain and freezing rain across southeastern Kansas into central Missouri. This will be a cause for concern as light icing on roads could occur. Precipitaiton will transition to all snow through the early afternoon.

Current forecast, we're looking at 5 to 10" across much of northeastern Kansas and northern Missouri. We're expecting 3 to 6" across the Kearney and surrounding KC Metro area.
