Bulldog Sports Recap

The Bulldogs were back in action on courts, mats and at meets this week. Here is the KPGZ Sports Recap:

KHS Girls Wrestling

On Monday night, the girls wrestling squad made the short trek to Liberty North High School. Both teams were missing wrestlers from the lineup but the Bulldogs prevailed by a score of 36-30. Freshman Bailey Martin continues to turn heads by making short work of her opponent, earning the pin in the first minute of the match.

The girls are now 4-0 in duals and 2-0 in the conference.

KHS Cheerleading

Kearney Cheer traveled to Cape Girardeau last weekend to compete in the Missouri High School State Championships. They performed a great routine with zero deductions.

The cheer team received marks that earned a third place finish in the state. Elizabeth Shaw received a place on the All-State team.

KHS Boys JV Basketball

On Wednesday night the junior varsity boys basketball team took on a tough Liberty North team for the second time this season. The Bulldogs got off to a slow start on the offensive end but played solid defense ending the first quarter with a 3-3 tie. The Eagles got things going on offense in the second quarter and the Bulldogs found themselves down 17-10 going into halftime. In the second half both teams continued to battle on both ends of the floor. With 7 seconds left the Bulldogs had the ball down 3 and were able to get a couple shots off but couldn’t get either of them to fall and ultimately fell 36-33. This brings the JV boys basketball team record to 2-3 on the season.

The leading scorer in the game was Cameron Webster with 18 points knocking down four 3’s. Casey Rooney added 8 points.

KHS Girls JV Basketball

The junior varsity girls hosted the Eagles of Liberty North Wednesday night in part of our 4 game night. The girls came out hot, executing on the offensive end. At the half the Bulldogs led 22-17. After relinquishing the lead early in the third, some hot outside shooting by Kayla Resler rallied the team back into the lead and they never looked back.

The final score was 50-44. Kayla Resler led the way with 22 points with six 3's. Brooklyn Westerfield chipped in 15 points of her own. The win brings our record to 2-3 on the season.
