Bulldog Weekly Sports Recap

Student athletes stacked up another week of wins for purple and gold. Here is the KPGZ Bulldog Sports recap:

JV Football

On Monday the JV Football team took on Winnetonka High School at Bulldog Stadium. The team came out fast from the gate, and the defense caused turnovers in the first two possessions of the game and the offense capitalized with two quick touchdown drives. The Bulldogs kept the offense going and came away with a 45-8 win over the Griffins.

Girls Golf

On Monday, the Varsity and JV girls golf teams traveled to Platte City to compete in the Suburban Blue Conference Tournament at Shiloh Springs Golf Course. Both teams competed and battled all day long. In the end the Varsity girls finished in 2nd place and the JV girls finished in 3rd place.

Junior Hailey Parker shot a 101 and missed all conference by one stroke. Sophomore Jojo Kutch shot a 101 and missed all conference by one stroke in her first full season playing golf. Senior Kenzi Kutch took 3rd place with an 85, and senior Jessica Riley took 7th place with a 90.

Freshman Emily Stauffer placed 5th for the JV team with a 114, and senior Megan Zingerman placed 3rd with a 111.

Boys Soccer

The Bulldog boys soccer team traveled to Ruskin on Tuesday for a conference soccer game. After a slow start, the team began to score with some regularity and finished with a 6-1 win.

Goal makers for Kearney were Liam Ridle with two, Julius Green, Angelo Donze, Jimmy Smith, and Creason Kane with one each. The win moves the Bulldog's record to 5-6, and 3-2 in conference.

On Wednesday, the boys beat Oak Park 4-0 in the first game of the Overland Park tournament. Two goals came from Jon Rinehart; Creason Kane, and Noah Jennings had one goal each.

That win brings the Bulldog's record to 6-6. The next game is against Harrisonville on Saturday morning at 10 am in Overland Park.

Girls Tennis

The varsity girls tennis team took on Fort Osage Monday at the Kearney High School courts for their first team district match. The girls played well and came away with a 5-1 win.

Shelby Flanigan and Flannery Simmons won their doubles match 8-0. Rachael Hallier and Emmy Beyeler followed with another doubles win 8-1. The athletes then competed in singles. Flannery Simmons was the first to win her singles match 6-1, 6-0. Rachael Hallier followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Shelby Flanigan went all 3 sets and earned the 5th win completing the match. Her set scores were 3-6, 6-4, and a super tiebreaker 10-2 score.

Volleyball

Kearney Volleyball fell to Platte County again last night, but this time the Bulldogs put up a solid 3 set fight against the Pirates. Sophie Kaster had 13 kills and hit .462 on the night and Kyle Walker added 18 digs. The girls really competed well in all three sets and have shown huge improvements since the last time they played Platte County. JV lost in 2 sets and C Team lost in a tough 3 set battle.
