Kearney Sports on Schedule - But There Are Options

On Thursday August 13th, The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Board of Directors met virtually to discuss alternatives to safely approach 2020 fall sports. During the meeting, the board approved a plan which allows alternate seasons for schools that cannot play in the fall.

The option outlined offers an alternative option for its member schools to play fall sports in the spring with games stretching into the summer.

MSHAA Executive Director Dr. Kerwin Urhahn stated “The traditional seasons are still being offered at this time for those schools able to participate. Today’s action by the Board of Directors puts into place a plan of action our staff devised in the event a school is not able to participate partially or in whole. This could give those students an opportunity to complete a season in their sport.”

As of August 13th, Kearney athletics are on schedule for the fall season as previously announced.  If the district were to opt for the alternative schedule, the first available date to play would be March 12th, with the season concluding May 1st. An alternate season would need to be played within the allowable number of weeks found in a traditional season.

The Kearney School district is continuously evaluating plans for school and sports activities in the fall.  KPGZ Sports will update further information as it becomes available.
