Missouri State Fair Quasi-Requires Face Coverings

While the Missouri State Fair has severely cut down on events and attractions this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Livestock Show will still take place this year from August 13th through August 23rd.

A statement on the State Fair website says the Department of Health and Senior Services will not be adding any restrictions for the 2020 event. However, as with most events that are allowed to occur this summer, the State Fair is encouraging attendees to use hand washing and sanitizing stations located around the fairgrounds and maintain social distancing wherever possible.

Officials of the State Fair also advise that if you feel sick, please do not come to the Fair. If someone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 14 days or is awaiting test results, please do not come to the Fair.

Added cleaning & sanitizing protocols have been put in place for visitor safety.

In addition to normal COVID-19 rules, the State Fair website is also reporting that the Pettis County Health Center Board has initiated a mandatory face covering rule. The face mask rule went into effect at midnight Aug 7th. While the Health Center Board uses the phrase “mandatory face mask order,” masks are not required if social distancing is possible.

“The order states that masks are not required when individuals can maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet,” states the release. “As the fairgrounds total nearly 400 acres, the opportunity exists for social responsibility and situational awareness for attendees and exhibitors. Attendees should follow the CDC and local health department guidelines and wear a mask, if not able to appropriately social distance. As has been planned all along, the Fair will provide free masks for anyone who requests while visiting the grounds.”
